Profile: John Della Volpe, ’08, USA
February 2008
John Della Volpe, director of polling at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University and founder and managing partner of SocialSphere Strategies, was recently chosen as a 2008 USA Eisenhower Fellow. And even though he will not depart for his fellowship travels in South Korea and China until May, he is already having an impact on the Eisenhower Fellowships network.
Della Volpe recently developed a survey sent out by EF in mid-February to all Fellows that asked about social networking and the ways in which EF can improve its electronic networking options. If you did not receive the survey via email, please click here to access it. Della Volpe will continue to accept survey responses through March 15. So far, more than 160 Fellows have responded to the survey with their thoughts and suggestions for improving the alumni network.
Della Volpe created the survey in conjunction with Diane Shoemaker, director of the alumni network. Shoemaker says that Fellows have been clamoring for improved electronic capability to get in touch with one another and to become quickly acquainted with just who their fellow Fellows are in the global network. She says a high response rate to the survey will more readily assure that EF can build a system responsive to Fellows' requests.
Of the survey, Della Volpe says, "I'm thrilled to help EF and the alumni network foster relationships that have developed through traditional offline networks into the new and exciting social networking space." Della Volpe’s work focuses on the impact of new media, Web 2.0, and the Millennial Generation (12- to 30-year-olds) on international politics and business. As director of polling, his primary responsibility is to manage the millennial research study and contribute insights on the impact of this generation in the
During his fellowship, he will meet with professors, business executives, political parties, non-profit leaders, entrepreneurs, and bloggers to explore the use and impact of Web 2.0 on Asian business and politics. In addition, he will study the impact of the Millennial Generation on Asian politics, government and culture.
